The Kanjoos of the play is called Mirza Sakhawat, a name meaning someone who is very generous and a giver. However, he is obsessed with the wealth he has amassed and lives like a miser. His love for his cash box exceeds that of his children. He builds his wealth by lending at usurious rate while pinching every penny at home, refusing to replace the worn-out clothes of the servants whom he abuses all the time. Now a widower, he has a son, Farrukh, and a daughter, Azra. Although he is over 70 years of age, he is attempting to arrange a marriage between himself and an attractive young woman, Maryam. Maryam and Farrukh are already devoted to each other and the son attempts to procure a loan to help her and her sick mother, who are impoverished. Mirza Sakhawat's daughter, is the beloved of Nasir, but her father hopes to marry her to a wealthy man of his choosing, Aslam Sahab. Meanwhile Nasir has taken a job as steward in Mirza Sakhawat's household so as to be close to Azra. The complications are only resolved at the end by a rather conventional discovery that Nasir and Maryam are children of Aslam Sahab, who were lost in a sea storm and were declared dead.

HAAI PAISA HAAI will be performed under MOHD. WASEEM AZAD THEATRE FESTIVAL. Haai Paisa Haai is written by Jitender Pawar and directed by Amar Sah. Haai Paisa Haai is a musical comedy based on common man's greed for more and more money. Pappu is a villager who gets transferred in the city and he starts living there with his wife Rampyari. In the city, Pappu and Rampyari get caught in the web of greed. Both of them start following the lifestyle of the city blindly without checking the pros and cons of the things.
    One thing leads to another.

    DSC_0238

The writer uses comic satirical language and questions the system and the very common man as well. One very easily blames the system but never looks deep in the heart. It's their own small negligence which leads to big political scams in the country. We want the results but never fulfill our duties. We ourselves break the rules and when we get hurt we just put the blame on others. At the end, the play very rightly tells us that to improve our country and our system, we need to act wise and enlighten ourselves first.

BALI AUR SHAMBHU will be performed by NABHYA THEATRE GROUP, under MOHD. WASEEM AZAAD THEATRE FESTIVAL.

BALI AUR SHAMBHU is a play that evokes the cliched description -'bitter-sweet', but there is nothing cliched about the play itself. It is not very easy to write and direct a story that can make you laugh even while tugging at your heart. Manav Kaul though, manages to pull it off with refreshing ease.

On the face of it, the story has a 'been-done-before' feel to it. The story of two geriatrics who are forced to share a room in an old age home. One surly, another cheerful. Gunraj Singh playing the surly Shambhu who keeps losing his temper at every little thing that the gregarious and zestful Bali (Elvis Chaturvedi is doing). A bulk of the play concentrates on the interaction between the two of them, as Shambhu goes from threatening to murder Bali to becoming his friend.

What makes the play different is the fact that this is just one part of the story. There is another aspect - that of Shambhu's dead daughter Titlee (Rukhsar Khan) who keeps making 'dream-appearances' right from the first scene. As Bali and Shambhu's friendship progresses, we are also gradually revealed the story of Titlee. Kaul has managed to weave the 'Shubhankar' factor into the script very cleverly, and keeps giving the audience clues about it/him at regular intervals.IMG_0247

Kaul's story mainly deals with two very diverse factors. One, how old age is one's second childhood. This is put across beautifully through the almost child-like fights that Bali and Shambhu have, right from arguing over the positioning of the bed to jocularly blackmailing each other. Secondly, how parents are often childishly stubborn about not accepting the reality of their little children having grown up. This is amply underlined by the fact that even after Titlee's death, Shambhu still dreams of her and converses with her as if she is a little kid who wants to listen to fairy tales. It is by deftly mixing these two factors that a play is created which can alternately make you laugh and cry.
Whoever thinks old-age or retirement homes are dreary and depressing places, should watch this play to understand that the other side of 60 could be a happier place too.

She disguises herself as a boy , Cesario and becomes a page in the service of Orsino, the Duke. Finally, after a series of confusion of mistaken identity, the brother and sister recognize one another and are reunited; Sebastian helps to clear the confusion as to who fought and married who. At the end, Orsino and Viola pledge their love, Olivia and Sebastian will remain satisfactorily wed. They apparently live happily ever after.

Ensemble of writings of Swami Antar Jagdish and Ismat Chughtai play/stories by the name of 'Agar Ye Hote To' and 'Bichoo Phoophi'.

The play is a reflection of various facets of emotions which revolve in the family. A beautiful comical play, it gives a new touch to the way we fight, and still love those who are close to our heart.

'Agar Ye Hota To' revolves around a family where the youngest son is getting married and how everyone shows their concern on different issues bothering them in the marriage ceremony. No one cares about the son himself but their own issues. This leads to confusion.

'Bichoo Phoophi' is a beautiful story of an aunt who is always cursing her family but in the end who cares for her beloved. Her anger and agony is never felt by the others but at the end of the day they realise how closely the family is knit together.

GAGAN DAMAMA BAJYO is a famous play written by Piyush Mishra. The play is based on the life of martyr Sardar Bhagat Singh. 'Gagan Damama Bajyo' reflects the work, ideology, thoughts and struggle of Bhagat Singh with glimpses right from his childhood to the end of life. It also shows the struggle for freedom with his contemporaries Sukhdev and Rajguru. The play raises a question that “Is this the India of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s dreams?”, because S. Bhagat Singh’s fight was not against British, but his fight was against the corrupt system and the disparity in society. He wanted that people should be treated equally and should have freedom of speech. But unfortunately that problem still prevails.

23rd March 1931, Hindustan lost its three precious diamonds. Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru..When we think of these names all we can remember is their sacrifice for this nation But why they did this? If we ask this question, most of the people would say to get India freedom from British rule. Is that it? No,. They wanted to build a nation., a nation with equality., where lower class is not suppressed by upper class, where people do not fight over religion. But was their sacrifice worthy? Are we actually free? Bhagat Singh use to say, "You can kill a man, but not an idea". Today, Bhagat Singh is more than a martyr. He is an idea, a thought, a reflection which can bring a change in our society. Soch Theatre group presents " Pratichhaya- The Rebellious Reflection ", a play based on a objective to bring this change in society

The play Daayan talks about the superstition in the society. Using a village and a drought as a background for the plot the writer questions the society. The plot gives the audience as insight and tries them to think logically and find the answer themselves. In the play the protagonist takes up her family job of working in the cremation ground of the village because of her unusual job. They throw stones at her. Due to the lack of rain, diseases spread in the village. The villagers hold her responsible for the death of their children. They asks her to quit her work but she didn't do that as there was no one to take her place. In the end the villagers abandon her out of the village. She does not get support by even her husband and in the end she is left alone. The play shows how whenever something bad happens instead of finding a steady solution people start blaming unnecessarily. The play also throws light on the plight of the women. How women are never given choice in their life. They are supposed to follow the set rules and norms of the society and if they try to defy those norms they are targeted, blamed and not accepted.

Due to this, Chandi is separated from her husband and son. This play raises the questions of state of women in India at present. How superstitions still make room in 21st Century India. "MOTE RAM KA SATYAGRAH" will be performed in MOHD. WASEEM AZAD THEATRE FESTIVAL' 2017 by ASMITA THEATRE GROUP. This play is an adaptation by HABIB TANVIR and SAFDAR HASHMI and is directed by ARVIND GAUR. The play is a comic-satire with all the elements of a musical. on the surface, the play appears to be a simple story about a brahmin from Banaras. The town of Banaras adorns itself to receive a Vice Roy, as per the directions given by the Magistrate- Sir William Parkinson. Pandit Moteram Shastri, the protagonist seems to have bitten more than he can chew, and agrees to go on a hunger strike to stop the people of the town from declaring a 'Hartal'. Whether or not the pundit succeeds in controlling his hunger brings the play to its comical climax. There is more to this play then meets the eye. It deals with larger issues of the relationship between Religion and Politics. The play wright, intricately weave the threats of this rather sensitive subject into a cohesive and entertaining play. The issues raised are as relevant and contemporary now, as they were under the colomset's rule.
